A program of short videos made by Vishal Jugdeo between 2004 and 2012 showcases his method of collaborating with performers to co-create experimental narratives, drawing on televisual tropes like sitcoms and talk shows. This collection highlights the videos’ fragmentary compositional structure, where performers improvise scripted (and stilted) language to generate both absurdity and cogency. Rotating casts of friends and lovers (including Jugdeo’s long-term partner Billy Wright), play off one another to explore subtle transmissions of power, intimacy and alienation. Throughout, language flops and misfires, highlighting its inadequacy to communicate hidden dynamics in relationships.
